Update! Curriculum Online

Early Registration Deadline 12.31.14

The InvestEd 2015 conference offers two and one-half days of investor education with a dynamic curriculum, which includes 32 new and updated sessions and lively discussions in the Friday and Saturday night Cyber Cafe.

We have several new instructors this year: Fran Waller, John Scott Cole, and Alex and Erica Reisman. All of our 2014 conference instructors are returning in 2015. The majority of our instructors are teaching at least two new sessions each.

Included in the InvestEd weekend at no additional cost are the Friday afternoon computer and technology Bonus Sessions, all of which are new sessions this year, and the Saturday Newbie Program. The InvestEd Newbie Program is designed for those who are new to investing or want a refresher course.

The conference schedule and the session descriptions are available for your review on the InvestEd 2015 website.

The reduced $369 holiday registration rate saves you $40 and is available only through December 31, 2014. Full-time students with a valid student ID card who are under age 30 and are first time attendees may register for $259. Refer others who did not attend InvestEd 2014 and receive a $25 referral rebate for each one who registers. You both must attend InvestEd 2015.

Registration includes access to all sessions (special registration is required for the self-contained Newbie Program), five full meals, a staffed Computer Lab, the Friday and Saturday night Cyber Cafe, free internet access in your Westin guest room, and free parking.

The $119 (plus tax) room rate in the InvestEd room block at the Westin Richmond provides cost-effective and comfortable lodging. Make your hotel reservations today.

Richmond is a vacation destination where you can combine investing education and sightseeing. Visit the InvestEd tourism page for ideas about where to go, what to see, and locations to enjoy excellent dining.

Education is a gift that keeps on giving. Find the riches, share the wealth, build better futures, and enjoy a June weekend in Richmond, Virginia, at InvestEd 2015.

The Dividend Channel

Sandy Gallemore

The Dividend Channel is a dividend stock analysis website geared toward investors interested in maximizing opportunities for yield and income. The site is a one-stop resource for data on stocks paying dividends. It includes features such as a screener for dividend stocks, a live data feed, a dividend calculator, and an ex-dividend calendar.

Investors are able to insert a ticker symbol and look up information about a company's dividend history, as well as receive a current quote. Around 50 slide shows are offered on a wide variety of dividend-related topics, such as: The Top 10 Dividend Ranked Stocks, 25 Dividend Giants Widely Held By ETFs, and Decades of Increasing Payments: 25 S.A.F.E. Dividend Stocks (S.A.F.E. = Solid return, Accelerating amounts of dividend increases, Flawless history of never missing or lowering a dividend, Enduring – at least two decades of dividend payments). Videos related to Canadian stocks also are included.

A free Weekly Newsletter is available. Subscribers receive listings of stocks identified by the DividendRank system, which selects the stocks that look most "interesting" and deserving of further research, in the view of Dividend Channel. These lists appear in 17 different categories or sectors/industries and include 15 ticker symbols per list, the quarterly dividend, and the yield. The symbols are linked to a description of the company, key statistics, dividend history, articles, a price chart, and other data and information.

The screener offers three popular stock screeners. The site may request users to register (free) for unlimited access to the features of the website. The Monthly Dividend Payers includes a long list of top dividend payers in this category, as do the Preferred Stocks screener and the Top Ranked Dividend Stocks screener. Clicking on a ticker symbol in one of the lists brings up a page that includes a graphic of the dividend history and a historic listing of dividends, news articles, a brokerage recommendation, interesting stock options to study, as well as a variety of other information. Entering a ticker symbol in the space provided on the home page brings up the same information about the company.

Investors interested in dividend stocks may want to add Dividend Channel to their research websites.

Ge.tt for Sending Files Online

Sandy Gallemore

Do you ever find that you need to send a file that is too large to travel through cyberspace as an email attachment? Would you like to know about a free online service that lets you send all types of large files very quickly, using any of the popular browsers? Ge.tt fills the bill.

The website Ge.tt lets you instantly send documents, music, images, and videos without any personal registration required. Suitable for both personal and professional use, this web service requires no special software or plug-ins for the file sharing.

File sharing at the Ge.tt website is very easy. All you need to do is click on the Upload files box, browse to find the file you want to send, type the recipient's email address in the available box, add a comment if you wish, click on send, and let Ge.tt send the file. If you want several people to receive your file, simply type in the multiple email addresses.

After clicking to upload your file or files, you will see a link to the file you are sharing to the right of the email sharing box. You may choose to send the album via email or you may just copy the link and send it to those you want to have access to the file(s). The files are available immediately, so recipients do not need to wait to view or download the shared files. If you choose to share multiple files, each file may be viewed or downloaded separately. Should the recipients determine not all of the shared files are needed, they may remove any files not needed without disturbing the other shared files.

While registration is not required, those who choose to register for a free account have access to 2GB of storage space on the website. Files you share remain on the site indefinitely. Without an account, you have 250MB of storage available, and your files will remain on the website for 30 days.

While file size is not limited, the size of your account may restrict that size. Those without an account are limited to files no larger than 250MB. Those with an account are limited to 2GB. However, account upgrades are available for a fee that can increase the storage size all the way up to 100GB. Regardless of whether you choose no account, the free account, or an upgraded account, no ads will appear in your file sharing.

For accounts, the Ge.tt settings area allows users to mask their email, if they choose. An email address is generated, and users may toggle between using that email and their regular email address. In addition, users are able to select options to show the share buttons, receive email from Ge.tt, or change their password.

During the time your files are stored, you are able to keep track of files you have shared and also be able to track the number of people who have downloaded or viewed the files you have shared. However, these files are not "searchable." Only those people who have received the files or those to whom you have provided a link to those files are able to access them. You may choose to share the URL through Facebook, Twitter, or through email.

An advantage of Ge.tt over other file sharing services is the "realtime" sharing of tiles. This means that your files actually are shared before they finish uploading to the website. The realtime file sharing, along with eliminating the need for downloaded plugins or software, is a good selling point for Ge.tt. The website's instant sharing has been called its "killer feature."

Founded about three years ago, Ge.tt was acquired last November by e-conomic, an online accounting software company. The Ge.tt website will continue to operate in its present form, offering both free and fee-based service.
